CHÂTEAU DU THEIL 4* – USSEL

At the 4-star Château du Theil, Making-of Studio is reinventing an entire destination that blends hospitality, nature, and sensory experiences.

Context

In Ussel, a comprehensive design conceived as an elegant and contemporary immersive experience

In the heart of Corrèze, the Château du Theil has been completely rebuilt. To support the upgrade of this 4-star establishment, Making-of Studio conceived and orchestrated a comprehensive renovation of the living spaces: hotel, spa suite, gourmet restaurant, and lounge bar.

More than just a design project, Patrick Juliot has created a truly immersive experience, designed to reconnect visitors with a sense of calm, comfort, and elegance. Each space interacts with the estate’s natural surroundings to create a cohesive, sensitive, and deeply welcoming atmosphere.

An identity inspired by the surrounding forest

The project’s central theme draws directly from the landscapes surrounding the château. Trees, foliage, natural materials, and the play of light become the foundational elements of a unique architectural style.

In the guest rooms, backlit headboards and panoramic forest views extend this sensation of gentle, enveloping immersion. Natural tones, textured materials, and indirect lighting transform the spaces into intimate sanctuaries, conducive to rest and relaxation.

In the gourmet restaurant and lounge bar, this botanical inspiration takes on a more sculptural dimension. Movable metal screens designed to resemble foliage, handcrafted pendant lights, signature lighting fixtures, and brass details come together to create an elegant world where light and shadow become true elements of the scenography.

The centerpiece of the project: a majestic, organic, leaf-shaped bar that structures the space and creates a warm gathering spot at the heart of the venue.

In the next area, the spa extends this sensory experience in a more serene, natural setting, where every detail helps slow down the pace and create a timeless escape.

A renovation designed for living, entertaining, and growing

Beyond aesthetics, Making-of Studio’s design approach focused on creating spaces that are fluid, functional, and adaptable.

The restaurant and common areas, in particular, were designed to accommodate a variety of uses: fine dining, private events, seminars, or business receptions. The custom-made, mobile, and modular furniture allows for easy reconfiguration without ever disrupting the harmony of the space.

Wood, marble, bronze, brass, stone, and raw porcelain make up a palette of fine materials selected for their authenticity and durability. Each element contributes to a refined yet understated aesthetic, where comfort and functionality remain at the heart of the experience.

A comprehensive approach to hotel design

For over 25 years, Making-of Studio has been partnering with professionals in the hospitality and restaurant industries to create spaces that blend identity, emotion, and operational efficiency.

Through each project, Patrick Juliot champions a vision of design that goes beyond aesthetics. By involving operational teams from the earliest stages of design, the studio creates spaces designed to be as beautiful as they are functional: smooth traffic flow, flexible layouts, staff comfort, optimized workflow, and a consistent customer experience at every moment.

From the overall concept to custom-made furniture, through to its manufacture and installation, Making-of Studio acts as a single point of contact to ensure seamless continuity between creative intent and on-site reality.

For the Château du Theil, this approach enabled the creation of a vibrant and adaptable space, capable of meeting the demands of a high-end establishment while offering an immersive and welcoming experience to its visitors.
